Clyde Stubblefield (drummer with James Brown), never fails to amaze me with what he does with a simple 4/4 beat. While the rest of the band does keep a great, steady groove and James Brown is at his best and most energetic throughout, it is Stubblefield that truly carries the song. The drum parts on ‘Cold Sweat’, and throughout the rest of the album (also titled ‘Cold Sweat’) are the most sampled beats of all time appearing on songs by the likes of Public Enemy, NWA, and De La Soul. Clyde Stubblefield passed away in February of this year, so this SOTD is dedicated to one of the most influential drummers of all time.
