This is my personal favourite Talking Heads song by far because it so perfectly represents the essence of the band. The tension is built expertly, the balance is so even, and the production is so smooth, it falls so far beyond nearly anything I’ve heard from this era, at least in my opinion. Tina Weymouth doesn’t get quite enough credit for her bass work as she deserves, and this is a great example of her simple, yet powerfully melodic bass lines. The drums and guitars are so tight, they perfectly match the narrator’s tightly wound personality, vividly painted by David Byrne. While it may not be the most recognizable or popular in the Talking Heads catalogue, it is such a good representation of their work and of why they are so important, that it deserves today’s spot as SOTD.
