This song is about as dark as it gets, sitting at the tail end of what is probably Elton John’s darkest albums, “Tumbleweed Connection.” The lyrics sound like Bob Dylan’s storytelling meets Leonard Cohen’s imagery in the diviest bar you’ve ever seen, and the song itself sounds like David Ackles and Johnny Cash doing their best, and darkest impression of Elton John’s songwriting. That’s the closest I can come to describing this hell of a song. If you’re looking for catharsis, this is the place.
