It just grips you. Straight from the opening notes, to the usual VU dark gritty subject matter, there is no avoiding the charm of this song. While I, and many others, may prefer their other albums as whole albums, this song remains one of my favourites for a casual listen. Doug Yule takes over lead vocals on the track and carries much of it with the charm and charisma that is normally expected of Lou Reed. The song opens with the stories of street beggars and the many characters of the underbelly of New York, and nearing the end of the track, we get the usual noise and feedback solo. This combination makes Oh! Sweet Nuthin’ one of the most quintessential Velvet Underground songs and today’s SOTD.
