I’m as much a Pixies fan as the next guy, but if it takes them losing one of their seminal members, Kim Deal, to create such a great song, album (The Last Splash), and band (The Breeders), it seems worth it. On this track – the single off of their sophomore album – Kim Deal flaunts her newfound creative control in her music, by tearing down her former for it’s lack thereof. Its layers of distortion, oddly placed stops, and really precise instrumentation come together to create an incredibly unique track, equal parts ethereal and grungy. Everything works so perfectly here, that it is today’s SOTD.
