This may very well be the song with the most pure emotional resonance of all the SOTDs thus far. Dylan’s lyrics alone tell a story of love lost, and the struggles of fame, and that alone already breaks my heart. But they aren’t done yet, the instrumentation and chord progression is amazing, the chord right before every chorus (E7) is the most potent 4 notes in my experience as a songwriter, and it drags you behind it as it pushes to Marcus Mumford at his most soulful. Every element of good songwriting and performance comes together, in what I consider a crowning achievement in the combined legacy of folk music past and present.
